Hi, I’m Deborah. I am a Humanistic integrative counsellor, this style of counselling values the importance of the establishing a therapeutic relationship with the client. The counselling process within this relationship seeks to assist the client in assuming the responsibilities for his or her problem and its solution.
I obtained my qualifications while living and working in the United Kingdom and have worked extensively as a volunteer Counsellor at the Open Door Project in Feltham, where the majority of my clients were in the low to mid income brackets.
In 2008 I began working as a part of an Employee Assistance Program which involved counselling Corporate Employees through their struggles in the workplace. More recently upon my return to South Africa I am exploring the use of mindfulness within my private counselling practice.
In my experience the best counselling takes place when Counsellor and Client collaborate in the process of understanding and assessing the extent of any problems or issues with the aim to establish therapeutic goals and outcomes. This will be facilitated by the counsellor’s communication skills, the ability to identify and reflect client’s feelings, and the ability to identify and gain insights into the clients concerns and needs.
As a Humanistic and integrative counsellor I believe in my client’s ability to take responsibility for themselves and their choices, and their capacity to fulfil their talents, working with the client to realise these potentials.
I hold an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling, I am a member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapist and adhere to their code of ethics for Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
Specialist Counselling service relying upon the importance of the relationship between the therapist and client to enable mind, body, feeling, soul and spirit to come together as a whole.
Based in Broederstroom.
